Ling Nam Offers Affordable House Specialties

It was another meet up and this time we are invading the Ling Nam in Glorietta 2. It was amusing that day because I feel that I was lost and don't know where I'm working and when I enter into the establishment I am not certain if it's the restaurant that I am looking for so I need to go away again and went over.

Oh gosh! This is not happening to me for the first time and even they called me already I don't even notice. Anyway, I come to Ling Nam to try their food. To try their specialty, the noodles, dimsums and everything that they can serve to us.

As usual, I have named myself if am I a food, particularly a Chinese food I would be a Siopao.

I never realized that they would served their Siopao first, asado and bola. It was good... yes the flavor of asado and bola was there and nothing special in the food. I think their siopao would be great if they put more filling in the bun instead.

Next we have the Noodles, Beef wanton, Beef and Chicken Asado Noodles. I just tried the Beef Noodles and it was perfect for me because the noodles are good and the flavor was there, but you have to add pepper and fish sauce.

Their Pork Siomai was not the usual size of siomai it was a little bigger compare to other siomai house. Hakaw was good as well as the Ham Suy kok which is like a buchi while I am very amazed in the presentation of thei Dragon Shrimp Balls.

I though that we are done but Mr. Edwin says that we are not because we are just starting. Until they served the main dishes together with the Yang Chow Rice.

We have the Home-made Tofu with 3 kinds of Mushrooms, Beef Hofan, Lemon Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork.

For me, my favorite in Ling Nam are the Beef Noodles, the Dragon Shirmp Balls, Hakaw, the Yang Chow Rice and the Beef hofan. I will give these food a 3.5 star.

Ling Nam was started in 1950's, their business becomes popular through the word of mouth. They re-launched their brand to the market early 2006. Currently they have 8 stores around the country;

WANTON PARLOR, Manila - Company Owned Store

BANAUE, Quezon City - Franchise Store, October 16, 2006

GREENHILLS, San Juan City - Company Owned Store, December 10, 2006

SHOPWISE COMMONWEALTH, Quezon City - Franchise Store, November 12, 2009

PARKMAL MANDAUE City Cebu - Franchise Store, February 05, 2010

CONGRESSIONAL AVE., Quezon City - Franchise Store, November 18, 2011

TRANSCOM, Pasig City - Franchise Store, June 2012

GLORIETTA 2, Makati City - Company Owned, 2012

Their vision is to expand the Ling Nam brand into the mainstream fast-casual dining market via franchising.

Experience the Luscious Food of Vyne Restaurant

It was a great opportunity to dine with other blogger friends in one restaurant where you can try some of their best seller foods.

It was my first time to attend the Zomato Foodie Meet up event, and I would say that it was amazing. When I say amazing, it not because they are all nice and smiling, give good tokens and everything. Even so, when I say I amazing, it's because they really are.

It was my first time also in Vyne. They served European, Asian and American cuisine. I heard that they are known with their Freestyle tapas and spunky ambiance with graffiti on the walls. They have live music and different themes every night. Perfect place if you want to go out for a dare. The owner is so nice and very accommodating and when I looked at him, I remember the actor Sid Lucero because they both the same the way he talks and moved.

Anyway, we started with their tapas. We have Pork Chasu Bun, which has Pork Chasu, Fried Quil Egg, Nori Strip, Leek, Sesame Mayo in Fried Mantao. Next is the Thai Scallops in Seared Scallops, Mango Salad in Nuoc Cham Dressing, Sambal Mayo, Crispy catfish and the Mini Crab Cakes which is in mini crab cakes, apply mayo, avruga and pickled radish. It was my first time to eat scallops and good thing is that I don't have allergies when it comes to sea food, it was chewy but taste like shrimp.

We also try their Prawn and Raviolli Laksa soup, which is so spicy for me but really taste good and for salads, we have Apple and Blue Cheese and East Asian Salad. I love the Honey Yogurt Dressing of Apple and Blue Cheese salad it complements the Blue Cheese. It has Arugula and I did not eat it, so I left it on the side of my plate.

It was so interesting to see the Ramen Carbonara in the menu. I was thinking of Ramen noodles in white sauce indeed it sauce was made in Miso Cream Carbonara, Smoke Pork and Sousvide Quil Egg in Ramen Broth. The noodle is the usual spaghetti noodles. We also tried their Vyne Burger. It has a 200g Beef Pattie, Mushroom Ragout, Foie Grass, Blue Cheese, Apricot Jam in Brioche Bun.

Off course, we simply can't wait for their main course which is the Pan-Seared Sole and the US Angus Rib eye Steak. The  prime rib steak is 600g, which is I think good for 3-4 person. I love it in medium rare. You will see the freshness of the meat by its color.

And finally my most awaited part of the meal is when the desserts were being served to me. We have Lemon Cheesecake in citrus and basil. It has a Lemon New York Cheesecake, Lemon Custard, Basil, Chopped Pistachio and Meringue. Hmmmmm, Yummy!

You can savor the taste of goodness of Vyne for just P1800 good for 2, and they accept cash and cards.

Vyne is opening hours;

Mon, Tue and Thu from 5pm to 2am
Wed, Fri and Sat from 5pm to 4am

Reservation is recommended and you may contact +63 9175530197. Vyne is located at the 8th Floor of W Global Center, 9th Avenue Corner 30th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Like them on Facebook at Just don't forget to rate and make a review of them at

Plana's Pantry Serves Filipino-Western Cuisine

Last September 6, 2014, I was invited to join a group of food bloggers to try a newly open restaurant named Plana's Pantry. When I entered to the place, my eye caught instantly was their interiors and furniture. It was so homey yet so relaxing place to dine.

The white and teal color combination is perfect as well as the hanging plants in the wall together with the wall frames with food-related quotes. Additionally, their place mat has different food quoted text and one of my favorites says, "STRESSED is DESSERTS spelt BACKWARDS."

Plana's Pantry serves fantastic food choices such as Starters & Sides, All Day Brunch, Steak Special, Pasta, soup and Salad (currently not available), Mains, and Desserts & Ice Creams, as well as their signature drinks.

We have Mushroom Salpicao and Battered Fish & Shrimp with Fries for starters. I love the Mushrppm Salpicao. You can taste the batter and garlic flavor in it. Then we tried their special dishes. I have Angus Rib eye Steak in medium done. While other blogger friends ordered Lamb Masala, Gandara Steak, Meltique Steak, and Hickory BBQ Ribs which we all tried by taking a portion in every order we had just to taste the food because they served us the food as it is the original serving.

We also tried the Plana's Sisig which reminds us (Alice, Dems, Cristal and me) the Vigan Tour because of it crunchiness and the Lengua which is really tender and tasty, the gravy like sauce  of it with mushroom complements the Lengua. I don't usually eat Lengua until I tried their version and its a thumb up for me.

I also love the Hickory BBQ Ribs. It has a sweet taste, and the ribs are so tender too and Lamb Masala is really "Malasa" (Tasty). All foods are served with side dishes. I should have appreciated my ordered Angus Rib-Eye Steak if it was served to me hot from the grill as well as their Basil Rice but the plating, and the serving is good.

And of course, a dining experience will ends with sweet treats. We have Chocolate Rumble and Avocado Mambo. The ice cream is made Mr. Plana (the owner) and his son.  By the way, you really get chilled with their signature drinks like Dalandan juice, Calamsi juice and Calamansi juice with malunggay, who has a little bitter taste.

The crew are very attentive and gracefully give all our requests. Also, I have notice that the owner was very hands-on to their business.  Based on what I have seen during that day, the soft opening of their store was successful because there are customers who already coming in. One good things is that their store location which is very accessible to people in the area as well as the condominium community which is adjacently situated at them.

Visit Plana's Panty at 50 Domingo M. guevara St. (formerly Libertad St.) Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City. You can call them at 0917 630 8256, email them at and LIKE them on Facebook at

Jelly G: The Authentic Milk Tea From Thailand

One of my favorite beverages is Milk Tea. No wonder I keep coming back to milk tea store. I used to drink tea when I am stressed,  it helps me feel more calm. So when a friend of mine ask who wants to try a new Thai Milk Tea brand in the Philippine. I made a decision to grab the opportunity to try it.

I was surprise that it was Jelly-G Thai Milk Tea. Actually I have tried their milk tea in their Market Market branch. Since I love milk tea, I used to try different store who offer it to find the best milk tea in the Metro.

Anyway, Jelly-G Thai Milk Tea serves different kinds of juices. From their Royal Drinks, Chocolate, Coffee, and Fruit drinks. I'm sure that you will love them all.
However, every drink has a difference to others that is why we have the so-called favorites. For me, I love their Thai Milk Tea and the Oolong Tea. What makes them different from other milk tea store is that, the only sinkers they have is Grass Jelly. I heard that it has a lots of benefits to our body.

They also served Bread Toast, we tried the Choco Banana, Pandan Delight, Spicy Tuna, Garlic Peanut Basil, and Cheesy Strawberry. I love the Choco Banana Toast and you can have it on stick or in cube.

By the way, Jelly G is the only authentic drink brand in the market that serves creamy and perfectly blended Thai Milk Tea.

Thai Milk Tea is originated in Thailand and the main product of Jelly G. It is popular for its deep amber color of the tea and its milk-tinted layer. The combination of strongly-steeped tea, dairy and sugar make it a perfect complement to refresh your thirst.

Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 45th Anniversary Presents Musikal

In celebration of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 45th anniversary, around 200 theater actors performed for what may be called the “biggest gathering of theater superstars” in history – “Musikal,” held last Friday (September 5) and Saturday (September 6) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The celebration was led by theater superstars Isay Alvarez and Robert Sena, Sheila Francisco, Dulce, and Karylle, who did not take her spot in the front line during the All-Star Finale.

Karylle’s gesture was lauded by some people who noted her humility.

A guest, who refused to be named, said, “Karylle obviously had a spot in the first row, but she was humble enough to stick to her place beside theater heavyweights like Isay, Robert, Dulce, and Sheila. Aside from her excellent performance that night, her humility and character shone during ‘Musikal.’”

Karylle performed lead roles in stage musicals like “The Little Mermaid,” “West Side Story,” and “Cinderella,” and reprised her Sita role from last year’s successful staging of Ballet Philippines’ “Rama Hari.”

“Musikal” opened with the overture by The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra with Gerard Salonga.

The revue started with musicals, which tackled old Philippines – “Walang Sugat,” represented by the comic spot “Makikiliti Kang Totoo,” performed by international musical star Sheila Francisco and Red Nuestro. It was followed by chosen numbers from “Ang Kababaihan Ng Malolos” and “San Andres B.”

The Ryan Cayabyab Singers performed a medley of songs from the musical “Lorenzo,” which elicited loud applause from the audience.

Former Sugarfree vocalist Ebe Dancel’s vocals soared in the “Rock Supremo” spot. He was accompanied by Ballet Philippines’ stars Carissa Adea, Kathrina Trofeo, and Richardson Yadao.

Children musicals came next. The segment opened with “Sandosenang Sapatos,” followed by last year’s multi-awarded “Bluebird of Happiness,” and “Batang Rizal.”

The “vaudeville” musicals were presented next with Roeder’s sexy, comic number “Titina” and the showstopping “Aba Ba Boogie,” from the 1980’s hit musical Katy with Isay Alvarez, star of last year’s revival.

The first act closed on a high note with a performance of some of the songs from Ryan Cayabyab and Bienvenido Lumbera’s “Noli Me Tangere” by the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers and the “Munting Pangarap” number of perhaps the most successful musical in recent years “Rak of Aegis.”

The second act opened with Myke Salomon’s performance of “Magsimula Ka.” Followed by spots from Ateneo’s “Sinta,” “Toilet the Musical,” and Ed Gatchalian’s “Rivalry.”

The cast of “Sa Wakas” performed next with the song “Bawat Daan.”

These numbers mirror the youth’s psyche.

The “Himala” spot was undeniably intense with powerhouse performances from May Bayot, Isay Alvarez, Cynthia Guico. and Dulce.

The mood turned gay when Myke Salomon opened the “Rainbow Segment,” with performances from “gay-themed” musicals like “Caredivas,” “Zsa Zsa Zaturnah,” and “Maxie.”

These fun numbers were followed by a revue of “Rama Hari,” perhaps the most important Filipino musical as it was made by icons of the industry – National Artists Bien Lumbera, Alice Reyes, and Salvador Bernal with the respected Ryan Cayabyab.

“Rama Hari” is based on the love story of Rama and Sita, as presented in the Asian epic “Ramayana.”

OJ Mariano (Rama) opened the suite with “Tagistis ng Ulan.” He was followed by Karylle (Sita), who looked every inch a royalty. She sang the most popular tune from the musical – “Magbalik Ka Na Mahal.” Then, a dance solo was performed by dancers from Ballet Philippines. Robert Sena joined OJ and Karylle for “Awit ng Pagsinta.”

The “Rama Hari” was greeted by thunderous applause.

“Musikal” ended with “Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako,” a song from the musical “Katy.” The said anthemic song has unofficially been the “theme of stage performers.” Dulce, Isay, and Aicelle, stars of last year’s revival, led all the performers in singing the song.

After that magical, emotional number, thunderous applause, and a long standing ovation greeted the more than 200 cast members of “Musikal,” further proving that the local theater industry is experiencing a new “high.”
